                                                           Ocelot

The name of this animal that I am studing is called a ocelot. The scientific name for this animal is the Leopardus Pardalis. It's apperance is a color from a witish or tawny yellow to reddish gray to gray and it's underside is white. The ocelots entire body is covered with black-borded blotches that are lighter in color in the center. The ocelots size as an adult can weigh up to 24lb and can reach up to 5ft. in body length.

The ocelot is a solitary animal. It is also a predator to other animals. The ocelot is a carnivor, it eats small mammals, such as monkeys, rodents, snakes, fish, amphibians, and birds. The ocelots sleeping habits are during the day and it hunts at night.

Ocelots live in Mexico and Central America. Also North as Texas in the U.S. The ocelots live in densely covered habitats and are able to thrive in a variety of different types, ranging from dense thorn srub to mountainous regions and tropical forest. They are generally nocturnal and are solitary.

Ocelots were placed on the endangered list on March 30,1992. Today 120 ocelots inhabit Texas. Also several ocelots are surrounding zoos.

Causes of the ocelots population to decline was, Deforestation, Habitat destruction, and being killed for fur.Today people are protecting the ocelots. It is now a law that ocelot hunting is banned.
