Matthew Owens-Red Wolves

My endangered specie is the Red Wolf scientifically know as Canis Rufus.

The Red wolf was declared extinct in wild in 1980. The last known red wolves were taking out of the wild and placed in a captive breading program. The red wolf is slightly smaller then the gray wolf  but bigger then a coyote. Its body is more slender and has a more elongated head. It has a tawny red coat with gray and black areas and has a black tip at the end of its tail. It is 4.5ft from head and body length and has a 13.8inch tail it can be up to 90lbs.

This animal lives in packs of 5 or higher including pups consisting on the mating pair. These wolves are predators and are nocturnal so they hunt at night. There diet consist of deer, raccoons, rabbits, and other rodents.

These wolves can be found in North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and in parts of Texas. Also they are said to be found in many part of the country. The wild Red wolves are usually captured and put into captive breeding grounds.

the habitats they live in are swamps, forest, wetlands, bushland, and agricultural lands but mostly open lands. They also live near farms and crops.

There is little known about the Red Wolf because the population was already severely decreased when scientist began research. The population declined due to hunting, population growth, habitat loss, and clearing of forest. Red Wolves found today are tested and are said to be extremely healthy.

Here is a video explaining more about the Red wolves

Although little is still known scientist are still studying these animals for better under standings the red wolf should be returned to the wild when there population number grows past a 1000
