Baidaa Jameel- Mediterranean Moke Seal.



The

Mediterranean monk seal is endangered species. The scientific name is Monachus Monachus. The monk seal have smooth coat and they are generally brown or gray .  on the bark and lighter on the belly and they resemble robes of Franciscan Fairs. They are 2-3m(6.6-10 ft) long and they weigh 225-275 kg(500-610 pounds)
Monk seal is a pack animal, They   appear to social and have been it groups of 20 to 300 seals. They called “colonies “. They are predators and a carnivore that eats fish, cephalopods, and crustaceans. They live in the Mediterranean seal, northwest African, coast and black sea.



  By the 1900’s there were only about 1,400 Hawaiian monk seal and 300 to600 Mediterranean monk seals still alive. The population decreased because the Mediterranean monk seal species was nearly wiped out due to hunting for its skin in the 1800s. today the main threats are killing by fisherman who consider the seal completion for fish accidental entanglements in fishing gear, human distubame and habitat loss.
 The Mediterranean monk seal are now protected by laws by many countries. Work is being done to help this species before it goes extinct. This includes studies on Mediterranean monk seal , promotion of marine reserves education and awareness efforts and seal rescue and debilitation programs.
