Ostrich
The ostrich is endangered species. The scientific name of animal is Struthio Camelus. The ostrich has long neck, legs and its feet touch the ground with two feet. Their legs very powerful and can cause serious injury if used to kick a human or predator. Males have feather on the back, also they got white feather on the wings and tails. The female color is brownish color. The ostrich is the fastest moving bird on land-reaching speeding of up to 40 mile per hours. The weight is 287 pounces and the height is 6.5 feet.
The ostrich is solitary; the ostrich are
not very social and prefer to live alone. However groups of 5 to 50 birds may
travel together with other animals, such as zebras or antelopes. In addition,
ostriches are not predator. The ostrich is an omnivore, it eat animal and
plant.
Ostrich habits on open grass land. Ostrich
comprised of semi-arid mixed wood land, scrub and grassland. Water is always in
short supply in the region, where one or both rainy season commonly fails. They
live for 5 to 10 years.
In
mid-20th century ostriches were founds in southwestern Asia, Arabian
peninsulas and Africa. Today ostrich found in central South Africa in Sahara
Africa. Ostrich were almost wiped out in the 18th century due to
hunting for feather.
The causes of population decline are, in the past,
they were hunting and farmed for their fine feather and skin. Also two ostrich subspecies
are listed as endangered the West Africa ostrich. Today, ostrich hunting is
less of a problem since the demand for their feather is not as great as in the
past and there for surviving species seem to have secure population. Although
peoples they use the feather for boots and bags. Ostrich have been successfully
domestic and now farmed throughout the world particularly in South Africa for
meet, feather and, leather.
