Mountain Zebra



           Endangered species research project                           Mountain Zebra is an endangered species. Scientific name of mountain zebra is Equue Zebra .Its body is covering of vertical strips except for their bellies, it has longs ear and dewlap below its chin and strong hooves for climbing in mountainous terrain. Its belly is white with black stripe; its average is around 7 to 8.5 feet in length and weight from 550 to 800 ib.                                                                    Mountain zebra is herbivore. It only eats mostly grass, bark, leaves, tree and shrub shoots. Thought they prefer mountainous region for their habitat, they are known to move to lower elevations to graze in cold weathers and seek shelter in caves or wooded areas. Many animals killed and eat mountain zebra, example Lions, Hyenas, Leopards, Cheetah, and Africa Wild dogs.                                                                                                                                   Mountain zebra lived in hot, dry, shark, mountain surrounded by grassland. They can be found in South Africa. Mountain zebra inhabit the mountainous plateaus and slopes often as high as 6,500 feet above sea level.                                                                                                                          The other subspecies of mountain zebra are the cape mountain zebra and Hartmann’s mountain zebra. The Cape mountain zebra occurs in the mountainous regions of Cape Province, South Africa and the Hartmann’s mountain zebra occurs in extreme southwestern Angola and western Namibia. The estimated population for the cape mountain zebra is around 600   and for the Hartmann’s mountain zebra, the estimated population is believed to be around 7000.                
Hunting and competition with domestic livestock is the main cause of the zebra population decline. Mountain zebra are became extent because they are being hunted for their skin. Also, drought zebra’s populations have been threat to the species.
