              Did you know that the cheetah’s predator was a lion?  The scientific name  for the cheetah is Acinonyx Jubatus. The cheetah looks like a big cat with an orange coat covered in black spots. The cheetah has a slender built body with long  legs and a tail that’s about 32 inches long (www.earthsendangered.com).

Cheetahs are isolated and solitary animals they live by themselves except if its time for mating season. The cheetah is a carnivore it preys on all sorts of mammals, gazelles, birds, warthogs, deer, and impala. The cheetah hunts during the day and sleeps during the night because it wants to “avoid competition with the lions and hyenas" (www.arkive.org).

 The cheetahs live in grassland savannahs. “Most of the remaining wild cheetah populations are located in sub-Saharan Africa (south of the Saharan desert) with some smaller populations in northern Africa and one isolated population still living in Iran. The number of cheetahs in 1900 was over 100,000.  The number of cheetahs now in the world is estimated as 7500” (www.bigcats.com).

“Decline in prey, loss of habitat, poaching and high mortality of cheetah cubs often in conflict with farmers because they attack livestock. “The cheetah, which can reach speeds of 70miles per hour, is considered one of the world’s most endangered species by the convention of international trade in endangered species”. Cheetah is an endangered species. The scientific name of this animal is Anticay Jubatus. Cheetahs have narrow   bodies so they can run faster. The size of this animal is that it can grow eight feet long and can jump 10 feet to keep out of any glories. The female gives birth to one to eight cubs after a gestation period of 90 to 95 days. The cubs depends on the mother for about three months and are very vulnerable to predators like lions and hynas.

Cheetah’s are social and live in groups called prides. Cheetahs are predators. Most of the time cheetahs hunt deer’s. A cheetah usually sleeps after they hunt. Cheetah primary utilizes day eight hours to hunt but the hours fairly differ from region.

Cheetahs are mostly found in Eastern Europe, Antarctica, North America, Asia, and Africa. Cheetah natural habitat is grassland. Cheetah prefers savannah and an area of open grassland available push land when stalking prey for their habitat. Cheetah considered the world’s fastest mammal on land reaching speeds of up 75mph.

 Some causes of population decline are:
•The cheetah is threatened by habitat loss and hunting for their potted pelt.
•They are also sometimes killed by farmers protecting their livestock.

What is being done to protect this animal:
This species is protected by the law, and the American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums  is dedicated to the research of breeding the species for preservation.
